Lost in Space

My blog for the day has disappeared-I know not where. Instead a completly new blog came up, starting with blog number one. I can't seem to get that to go through, either. I will keep trying- looking for it. MEB

Old railroad bridge.

This is a picture of the old railroad bridge that spans the Ohio River between Henderson, Ky. and Evansville, IN. I think it was built around 1913 and is still in daily use. You can just make out a freight train coming across the bridge. In The Great Flood of 1937 it was used to get from one state to another, using foot power. The railroads had stopped running due to the high flood waters. Henderson sits up on a bluff overlooking the water and was not flooded. Many people were evacuated by rail, than by foot, to the safety of Henderson. Barges were used to save cattle, farm animals and people. Even so, many people were lost, and cattle and hogs were drowned after 19 days of continuous rain. The flood of 1937 took the lives of over 5.000 people. Now, because of urbanization, should there ever be a flood like that one, a lot more people would be affected. I took this picture in a small, underutilized park by the river. I like to go get something from Wendy's, go watch the river flow south and eat my goodies.

Today I have been pulling out furniture trying to get rid of spiders, spider webs and dust. Now, I have to put it all back.

I have been cooking up a storm; sweet potatoes, cabbage, green peppers and onions. It smells really good and I will dive into it in just a bit. Yum is the word.

It has been a quiet day and I like it that way. Not much going on and I like that, too.
